Bale lines himself up for victory
Tottenham winger Gareth Bale is reportedly being tracked by three major Italian sides following his impressive run of form since the turn of the year. The Welsh midfielder was originally made famous for his record 24-match winless Premier League run, which
he ended less than a year ago, on September 26, 2009, against Burnley.
Since then he has gone on to be a mainstay in the Spurs line-up, starring in their run to secure fourth place in the Premier League last season. He has started this campaign in similar form, leading to interest from Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan. The
Spurs will be desperate to keep hold of one of their star assets, and will be in a very good position to negotiate, especially considering the player signed a new four-year deal in May. But if Bale keeps up the form he demonstrated on Tuesday night (in the
Champions League), Europe’s biggest clubs will have to take notice, and may potentially offer irresistible money.
It’s all a complete change from this time last year, when Bale, often deployed at left-back, was such a derided character. He looked like a major flop for the north London outfit, which had splashed out £10m for the player back in 2007. He has since grown
into a mouth-watering winger; at just 21 years of age, there seems to be no stopping him, and he looks to have an extremely bright future in the game. There’s no suggestion that he is unhappy at White Hart Lane, but if they fail to qualify for the Champions
League next term and giants such as the aforementioned Italian trio, plus reported interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United materialise once more, Spurs fans could have to face up to losing one of Europe’s most exciting prospects.
