Baljit Singh attacks A.B. Subbiah for not getting in the probable's list
After failing to get into the list of probable players, Baljit Singh, the ostracised hockey goal-keeper of India, has flayed criticism on the national selector, A.B. Subbiah, saying that he was attempting to spoil his international career.
The former Indian goalie further claimed that the selector was indulged in dirty politics, therefore he excluded him out of the probable players’ list for the forthcoming Champions Trophy.
Baljit Singh was of the opinion that this is not the first incident of its type, as it is a routine matter of the games in the country. In his claims, he said that he was not judged and evaluated on the basis of his performance. He also asserted that the
selector made attempts to put down him ahead of the training camp.
Baljit continued that he was informed by Subbiah that he has a problem in his eye-sight (peripheral vision in the right eye). The selector also offered him to engage him in the training-line, but he refused to do so, as he wanted to play the game.
It is worth mentioning here that Baljit Singh made a comeback into the team after a long spell. In 2009, one of the best custodians of his era received a lethal injury in his right eye during a practice session. He was named as the best Goalie in the recently-concluded
National Games.
The custodian further stated, “The way they closed the door was not right, it hurts. They selected me on the basis of my performance on the domestic circuit. Barring Rajpal Singh and Gurvinder Singh Chandi, they did not ask anyone to submit medical certificate
before the camp. If they had any problems with my vision, they should have said that before summoning me for the camp. There was no need to create such a drama.”
Baljit stated that he had displayed brilliant performance in the camp and denied most number of attacks with no issue. Michael Nobbs, the newly appointed coach, also has no problem with his eye-sight, but is following the instructions of the selector.
