Question:

Ball Python Hasen't Eaten In 2months!Picture Included?

Well I bought my 'baby' ball python June13th. She was pink on the bottom at the time (she's about 1ft and a half? I'm terrible at measuring with my mind) Well the breeder said she only eats live mice (fuzzies, with their eyes barley open) So I took her home and we have her two water bowls and two hideouts with a basking spot. The warm side is 85-90degrees and the cool side is about room temp or so 70ish. She is still pink on the bottom but it looks like it's getting lighter. I spray water in her tank everyday and soak her everyday.(i've put places for her to rub against too)

She still hasen't eaten and I'm scared she is too skinny.

Take a look

  1. maybe she is still just stressed..  her cage doesn't look like a snake's real enviroment at all - not sure what is in there - paper?  do some research and get some real bedding and make sure that the temps are what they are supposed to be at.. pretty sure they need a light and under tank heater (heat rocks are sometimes recommended but they can get too hot so i wouldn't use one of those..

  2. to be honest she looks pretty healthy.. when was the last time she had shed? during these times her eyes will get cloudy and she will darken.. and will also neglect food..i had a ball python a couple of years ago that would refuse to eat live mice..only frozen.. although it's rare it does happen..2 months is quite a while.. i would definately try the frozen mouse if that doesn't work and she's that important call a vet.. they will check her out

  3. im sorry i have no idea but all i really know is that arachnids fast for month at a time not sure about reptiles though?

will she be sheading no probably not.

they are very fussy eater ball pythons and if it is your first snake or pyhton it is not a good bigginers pet.

if you feed him/her frozen food it is very hard try feeding him/her live. Alot of people say to not feed live food but give it a go it might start eating again. i hope it eats again

    good luck

    =)

  4. She looks to be in good weight.  Pythons are slow metabolizers so food goes a long way.  Soaking her every day can and does stress a snake out and would probably be one of the reasons that she isn't eating.  She need to be left alone for a while.  Misting once or twice a day should suffice for keeping the humidity up.  Too much humidity and you'll have scale rot.  You can also provide a humid hide for her if you are concerned about her being able to shed.  You'll need a plastic container with a lid big enough for her to climb in.  Cut a hole in the side for her to go in and out of.  Put damp sphagnum moss or paper towel in the container and place it in the cage...probably between the warm and cool side would be fine.  She'll go in it if she needs it and you won't have to mist her at all.   You really are only looking at a little over a month without eating.  June 13th to July 13th is one month and it's only the 18th now. They can go many, many months without food.  You may as well get used to it now.  Balls are notorious for not feeding...one of the reasons I don't recommend them for first time snakes.  Leave her alone for at least a week.  Do not handle her or bathe her.  Then offer her a food item just after dark and see if she takes it.  If you can get her eating consistantly, I'd try to see if you can get her on either pre killed or frozen/thawed.  The hazards of feeding live are great and one I wouldn't want to risk unless absolutely necessary.  I won't purchase a snake if it will only feed live.

  5. No worrys. Your doing everything correctly, when your ball python's belly turns kinda pinkish it means it is about to shed. But feed live hoppers to it. Fuzzys are way to small for your python. If you see bulky skin color just mist the tank. And dont feed it until its shedding is finished. But in the picture it looks like its done shedding.
