Ball State men’s volleyball team defeats St. Francis by 3-1 on Saturday
The weekend gone by was one with which the Ball State men’s volleyball team will associate good memories.
The weekend matches were part of the Don Shondell/Active Ankle Challenge which Ball State was able to end on a happy note. The match that they played on Friday against Penn State was one that Ball State was able to win in a clean sweep.
Saturday’s match though tougher, ended in a win for Ball State as well. Worthen Arena saw a defeat dealt out to St. Francis in a contest that thrilled the spectators and went on to four long and entertaining sets.
By the time that the night was out and the Ball State team was giving hoots of joy as St. Francis was making their way out of the court, the score board displayed the following final set scores: 25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20.
With their recent win, the number of Ball State’s overall season wins has improved to a figure of 19. These victories have been achieved after Ball State has suffered losses that amount to be 10. As opposed to the regular season record, Ball State has been
able to earn a total of seven wins in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association matches. They have been able to bag these wins at the expense of suffering a total of five defeats.
The first set of the match started off with the Cardinals taking the lead. They were able to keep the pressure on St. Francis and extend their advantage. The St. Francis team did not let this deficit affect their spirits adversely and were able to pull up
ahead to close in the gap.
However, Ball State was able to have the lead again and move on ahead. Once they had the lead, Ball State was able to see it until the end as they bagged the first set of the game at 25-15.
The second set of the game saw St. Francis take the lead early on. St. Francis was able to keep the advantage with them as they extended it to the middle of the game. However, Ball State did not back down from the challenge and were able to close in the
gap as well as tie the score. The middle game saw some struggle of control between both the teams but eventually, St. Francis was able to secure a win at 25-23.
Unfortunately, the second set was the only moment of glory that St. Francis would have in the entire match. Ball State was able to step up their game and take both the third as well as the fourth sets at 25-23 and 25-20 respectively.
Next in line for the Cardinals is a MIVA match against Quincy over the weekend.
