  1. Lots of people have apparently seen it, but nobody can come up with a good explanation for it, and it hasn't yet been reproduced in the laboratory.  You should feel lucky to have seen it.  The closest thing to it that I have seen is a bright glowing ball of light that seemed to be attached to the top of a utility pole. It disappeared and immediately after there ordinary lightning and thunder.  A paper has been published that claims it is a visual hallucination, but I think that answer is ridiculous, since more than one person has seen it at a time.

  2. I will agree with Pegminer that it is a strange thing. I haven't seen it myself but my mother did. It came in the room through the chimney during a thunderstorm and stayed nearly motionless before is simply vanished.

I think it can be associated with St. Elmo's fire that seafarers, and sometimes airmen can see. The latter saw one in a volcanic dust storm, actually. Apparently it is a luminous plasma. Perhaps lighting balls are similar.

Another amazing incredible fact is that, at very rare occasions, radio amateurs can hear their own voice up to a minute after they stopped talking. No one has a good explanation. The only plausible one is that the radio waves are caught between two layers of the ionosphere and spin around the earth several hundred times before coming back as a long lasting echo. Nobody understands it but, as Pegminer says: when something is reported by different people and that it is obviously not a fraud because no economical or other type of gain can be achieved ... we have nothing to do but to believe those people. In any case, I believe my mother!

  3. i saw ball lighning a couple of years ago when my cousin and her mom was riding home from a pool while me and my family were camping.

  4. I have seen ball lightning only once in my life! I was home one day when I was younger and I was looking out my kitchen window, and I saw ball lightning! It was pretty awesome to see it because it is a very rare occurence when it happens and even rarer if you can actually see one because it does not last very long.

Scientists and other people are still not sure how ball lightning occurs and they are still trying to figure out what it is. However, there are pictures of ball lighting on the web!

  5. It's probably a ghost, don't let your guard down just yet...
