my ball python is 5 months old and is feeding very well he takes a small f/t mouse every five days( within seconds of me offering it to him) he seems happy and loves being handled, i keep him in a container that is 1ft by 7" in side his main viv which is 3ft by 1 1/2 by 2ft he has a under tank heater 24/7 and a ceramic which i have on for 6 hours a day, that are connected to a thermostat. the tamps are 78-80 on th cool side and 88-90 on the hot side with hides at either side and a bowl in the middle in the main viv he has bark substrate, branches logs, fake plants(which i let him out in for a couple of hours and he loves climbing and exploring and even taps on the glass for me to get him out and wont stop this until i do) he res the thing, how do i know what the humidity is and how do i keep it at level it should be? I am 12 years old and want to do best by my snake... please dont tell me i should have studied my basic husbandry before getting him because i have wanted one since i was eight and didn't think i was old enough to be responsible for one but i was at the fair and the man that works there was bragging he had a snake that he was straving just because he hates them.. so my brother sorted this problem and i begged to keep it and glad i did!

  1. Your snake keeping skills sound quite good, don't worry. You monitor humidity using a hygrometer, you can buy exo terra ones, which are plastic and quite cheap, the same design as the round plastic thermometers.

  2. I'll do the best I can, I've had a Ball Python for years. They are more adaptable to humidity and temperature than you would think. I have moved mine from an office where I did not keep up with the humidity to a controlled room with high humidity. The main thing is to watch the heat pad, some get to hot for the snake and also if they get to warm they will go to their water to cool off.

My snakes that need high humidity would not shed good till the humidity was raised. The Ball Python shedded right all the time. I would suggest you go by how the snake sheds, as long as it sheds in mostly one piece you should be OK.

PS: I only feed my snakes once every two weeks, you don't want to stretch their scales.

    Hope this will help.
