Ball python cage/feeding?

Can a baby ball python live in a 40 breeder tank all its life? or do I need to start with a 20 gal and wait till it gets bigger? and is live better then frozen?

  1. yes that is perfect. and i think froozen is better, because it reduces injury to the snake and is more humane for the mouse.


  2. a 40 gallon tank should be alright for one ball python all of its life.  if the snake will eat it frozen thawed is so much better.  for a few reasons.  

    1.  your snake won't get bitten by its food

    2.  if you ever have to move and you move to a place that doesn't sell live feeder rodents it can be hard to switch adults (i speak from experience here).

    3.  you don't have to monitor the snake while he eats...you can just leave him in his feeding tub with the frozen thawed mouse for a bit.

    also as soon as your snake is big enough for rat pinkies start him on rats...sometimes adult ball pythons wont switch from mice to rats (again experience)

  3. A 40 will do great for it's whole life. I feed both so that they are used to either one.
