Ball python help please?

I have decided to get a ball python, I do not have my mind set on this, however I have found that it is a good beginner snake. [other than a cornsnake.] However I read that they get stressed easily. Well my parents are divorced, and I visit each of them for a week. Will my python become stressed if I move it with me each week to a different house? Because I don't want to leave it unattended for a week. Is there any other snake that I can take with me, that is for a begginner? [I do not want a cornsnake, to squirmy for my taste.]

thank you.

  1. yes he will most likely he can stay at one house with out problems also try a rosy boa

  2. Yes, get a ball python. I have 2 and they are very adaptable. Baby and Dolly are in a large tank with a hide box and big water dish. They do not have any added heat. They are near the stove for winter. They are therapy snakes and go to handicapped camps, vacation bible schools, nursing homes, kindergartens, school classrooms, etc. They love the attention. Your ball should get used to your routine very easily. I have had my 2 now for 9yrs. I would not reccomend gettting a tiny baby because lots of times they don't eat good..get an older one that you either see eat or know you can trust what the people say. God Bless!

PS..My ball pythons are only 3 ft they do not get as big as boas and burmese pythons.

  3. Im sorry but their aren't any snakes that would do well traveling like that week to week they would be less stressed in one house hold. However ballpythons as well as cornsnakes are very low maintaince pets you dont have to walk them or brush them or feed them daily. Heres an idea you could leave the snake at one of parents house and just ask them to change the water dish every other day while you are at the other parents house and when you come back you can feed him and clean the cage they can eat everyother week with no ill effects, I used to do this with my ball python is alive and well today.

  4. Ball python or a boa (red tail version is very pretty). Both make great pets, but please do your homework. Both species grow rapidly when well taken care of and in no time at all you could have a 6 footer on your hands. Snakes tend to grow about a foot a year. And as far as taking it with you, just make sure you have the exact same enclosure at both homes and make sure they are clean. Best way to transport a snake is in a soft pillowcase. It gives the snake security and keeps it calm. But that is only if you really need to take it with you. Snakes normally eat once a week anyways and are pretty low maintenance, so leaving the snake at one home while you visit the other isn't a big deal, just feed it the night before you go. Do make sure you get a snake that is at least 8-10 inches though, anything smaller tends to stress out anyways and isn't recommended for a beginner. Good luck!

  5. Ball Pythons are very good beginer snakes! But if u do decide to get him n move him back n forth i would establish too separate tanks for him! one at ur moms n one at ur dads house.. this way his tank/s are still stable environments.. the trips back n forth should not be stressing at all to him! To the snake it would be the same as taking him out of his tank for a while!

  6. no matter what snake you get, it needs to stay at one house. a week is a tad bit long but if someone is there to take it out every other day is fine. it wont be stressed, it will just be grumpy from not being held for a week.
