Question:

Ball python laying eggs?

I have been told that my ball will be laying eggs soon and I was told that an incubator is good for first timers but I need to know what temp and what humidity should I keep the incubator at. I am getting a Incubator, Hatchrite, & Deli Cups package from www.lllreptile.com. I already sent them an email about whether it comes with a care guide but if they say no, I need to know from someone expirienced.

  1. my first clutch of eggs was for blood pythons this is what i did.  i went to a farm store and bought a incubator for chicken eggs (less than $50.00).  do not let the sales person talk you into an egg turner (i say this because the sales person tried to get us to buy one) snake eggs do not need to be turned at all this will kill them.  after the eggs were laid we separated the eggs (most people do not separate).  make sure to keep mark the tops of the eggs somehow, if they get turned upside down it will kill the snake inside.   we took two ziploc containers (the long rectangle size ones) and drilled two very tiny holes in the lids of each container.  i put beaked moss in them and got it moist (most people use vermiculite).  we laid the eggs on top of the moss put the lids on tightly and put the containers in the incubator.  i believe the temp for hatching ball python eggs is 85 - 87 F.  check several times throughout the day to make sure the temp stays pretty much the same.  every other day or so i very very lightly misted the eggs, hardly anything at all.  about 2 months later we had snakes.  :)  after the first little head poked out from an egg i took both lids off of the containers.  leave the babies in the shell.  they will come out on their own, it may take 24 - 48 hours.  we had a few babies that refused to come out of their shells after about 4 days if they are still in the shell you will need to cut open the shell and gently take the snake out.  as soon as they come out of the shell transfer them to their enclosure.  with my bloods i put all the babies in the same enclosure then after i started feeding them i put the ones that ate in one tank and the ones that did not eat in another tank.

    good luck!
