Ball-tampering: A science without conscience

It’s a common perception that science always saves the day. The idea accedes pretty well with the game of cricket.
The scientific phenomenon of aerodynamics has always played an important role in driving the game of cricket. Indeed all the swing that fast bowlers produce to baffle the batsmen owes to this very phenomena.
Some of you might be thinking that if we somehow know the equation of aerodynamics, we would be to produce extra large swing every time we ball! The good news is that it’s true that we can temper with the stature of the ball to make it swing more. The phenomenon
is known as Ball-tampering. And the bad news is that the sport’s governing body, the International Cricket Council, is far too clever to let any such thing happen. Ball-tampering is a severe crime in the world of international cricket.
Ball-tampering is an action whereby a fielder illegally tampers with the physical condition of the ball. According to Law 42 of the Laws of Cricket, during a match the ball may be polished without using any artificial substance. If during the match the player
wants to clean the ball, he must do this under some supervision. A very famous form of tampering consists of applying lip balm to one side of the ball to make it smooth. Conversely, the other side is made rough by the use of abrasive tools.
For years bowlers have devised new forms of ball-tampering. As the media advanced more sophisticated cameras came into being, and ball-tampering was limited to a great extent.
In 1994 the England captain Michael Atherton was fined 2000 pounds for putting dirt on the ball. Back in 2006, an alleged ball-tampering issue disrupted a whole test match. The match was being played between England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. During the course of the
match Pakistan were penalised for ball-tampering. The allegation caught the whole team off guard and they refused to play the match.
Back in 2004, India’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 was recently caught in a similar case of ball-tampering when he tried
to bite the ball and was slapped a penalty of two T20 matches by ICC.
Over the past ten years, the trends in the occurrence of ball-tampering have remained pretty much the same. The players and cricketing boards are fully alive to the fact that that the sport’s governing body leaves no stone unturned in giving the strongest
possible indication that ball-tampering is highly unacceptable in the world of international cricket.
Ball-tampering is one of the most interesting innovations in the history of cricket. The inception of such a brilliant technique in the world of cricket clearly shows that cricket is more of a science fiction than a mere game. As for now, we must comply
with the rules of the sport’s governing body and take ball-tampering as a crime.
