Ballantine’s Championship: Victor Dubuisson leads by two strokes after the first round
Victor Dubuisson reached the top of the leaderboard, as he shot a 4-under 68 in the first round of the Ballantine’s Championship on Thursday.
The 22-year-old French golfer displayed an amazing performance, at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
He started the round by scoring a birdie on the first hole of the tournament. He reached the top position after making two more birdies on the front nine holes of the course.
Dubuisson also made a double-bogey on the 4th hole but remained at par most of the time. Then he started the back nine holes and amazed the spectators by scoring enormously.
He scored five massive birdies and two bogeys till day-end and reached on top of the leaderboard impressively.
“I made a 5-meter putt to save bogey at the 10th, my first hole, and a 5-meter putt to save par at my second hole,” Dubuisson said.
“That made all the difference because under the conditions if I had missed the putts twice I could have gone into a negative cycle”.
He added, “I always drive the ball well, but when my short game is good it can make the difference of four or five strokes to the score”.
Dubuisson faced some difficulty scoring, as the weather was really cold. Fierce winds created trouble for him and also hampered the players from scoring birdies.
Due to the strong winds and unfavourable conditions, only 17 players, out of 156 finished under par, whereas the rest were above par at the end of the day.
He is currently leading by two strokes against five other professionals. He delivered his best in the European Tour event, on April 26, 2012.
The Cannes native turned professional in 2010. He has been looking forward to winning the title ever since, as he has not won any professional events so far.
In the current year, he played seven European Tour events and finished two in the top-10. He also recorded an 11th position finish at the Maybank Malaysian Open and improved his world ranking.
The first round is over now. If he desires to reach the top of the leaderboard in the upcoming rounds, he has to do his best and save bogeys.
