Ballantine’s Championship all set to produce fireworks – European Tour News

Another fascinating European Tour event, the Ballantine’s Championship, is all ready to tee-off at the Blackstone Golf Course in Seoul. This will be a four day event sponsored by Ballantine and carries lucrative prize-money of €2,205,000.
All the top ranked players from the World and Europe will feature in this championship. World Number one Lee Westwood will highlight the championship with his appearance. He is also the top ranked player in this championship.
The Englishman has a great record playing in the Far East and he already has a number of victories to his name. Recently, he won the Indonesian Masters where he reclaimed his number one ranking. He also celebrated his 38th birthday by lifting
the Indonesia Masters trophy.
This is Westwood’s second appearance in this championship and he has a great chance of winning back-to-back victories. Already, his record shows that he enjoys playing in this part of the continent. All eyes will be on Westwood after he showed his brilliant
form in his previous outing.
The 38-year-old Westwood has a great chance to improve his win record and make it 21 European Tour victories. His last win on the European Tour came in 2009 at the Dubai World Championship. Since then, he has been winning tournaments but not on the European
circuit.
Some other notable and top ranked players are also competing in this tournament. American Dustin Johnson, Ernie Els and Ian Poulter will also look to challenge the World Number one.
Indonesia Masters winner Westwood said, “Korea has really put itself on the world golf map these past few years with the performances of its top players and the facilities there are second to none, so it has all the makings of a great week.”
The World Number 12 golfer Johnson will make his debut appearance in this championship. He is rarely seen participating in tournaments outside USA. Johnson will look to take advantage from his long drives. The American will also be hoping to win his first
championship playing in Korea. He has been in good form this season and will look to capitalise on it.
.
This is the best field in the history of Ballantine’s Championship. All the players are geared up to unleash their game on the field from tomorrow.
The colourful Poulter is hoping to win his eleventh European Tour title. Last year was a good one for him as he won two tournaments. His recent win was at the UBS Hong Kong Open where he won by a single stroke over his compatriot Simon Dyson and Italy’s
Matteo Manassero.
The ‘big easy’ Els is hoping to win his second title of European Tour this season after he won the South African Open in his home country. Els, is a three-time major champion and will take full advantage of his experience to add another victory.
Marcus Fraser of Australia is the defending champion and he will be hoping to successfully defend his title this year. Although, it will be tough for him, he still looks confident of winning this championship for the second time.
