Ballantine’s Taiwan Championship prize money increased – Asian Development Tour
The Asian Development Tour event of Ballantine’s Taiwan Championship will be staged in Chinese Taipei in August. The sponsors have given a boost to the players by increasing the prize money by 22 percent.
Previously, the official prize money which was announced was US$ 90,000. Now they have increased this amount to US$ 110,000 which is a lucrative one to attract the players. This will be a four day event starting from 25 August. It will be played on the Tong
Hwa Golf & Country Club in Taipei.
This will be the second edition of this four-day championship. Now that the prize money has increased, the top ranked players from Asia will also look forward to participate in this championship.
The Asian Development Tour started last year by the Asian Tour authorities. This was started so that the young talented players can show their capabilities on the field. It was a initiative taken by the sanctioning body which conducts the professional golf
tournaments in Asia.
Through this move, there are already young players coming and playing on this tour. All the players who fail to make it through to the qualifying stage, play this tournament. These players do not have the privilege of playing the Asian Tour as they do not
have a card. There are a total of five tournaments which the Asian Development Tour has announced earlier.
Ballantine is categorized as one of the top sponsor for the Asian Tour. It already is sponsoring the event of Ballantine’s Championship in Korea which has the prize money of €2.2 million. With this high amount of prize money, the top ranked players of the
world are surely going to participate in these Asian events. This championship will be co-sanctioned by the European as well as Asian Tour.
“The inaugural Ballantine’s Taiwan Championship was a great success and we are delighted to increase the prize fund for the 2011 edition. Ballantine’s is honoured to be involved with the growth of golf in the region and we are looking forward to the second
staging of the event which will significantly showcase our brand again,” said Tim Paech, Managing Director, Pernod Ricard Taiwan.
Executive Chairman of Asian Tour, Kyi Hla Han has already appreciated the efforts laid down by their main sponsor, Ballantine. It has thoroughly supported the promotion of golf in Asia which has produced good results world-wide also.
Asian Development Tour is considered as a launching pad for the young aspiring players who want to compete on the international circuit. They have already shown their performance in the season opener of Grameenphone Bangladesh Masters. This was won by Siddikur
of the host country.
The top three players leading in Order of Merit of Development Tour will automatically get their Asian Tour cards for the next season. Yosuke Tsukada of Japan is currently leading this list.
