ok so I just started dancing when I was 13 two years ago and I love it!I take ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and tap. I go many times a week and am becoming pretty serious. I can't help to be jealous though of the girls who have been dancing all their lives. But my teacher told my that I have come a long way and that I am a very good dancer. I was wondering if I could ever be a professional dancer by the time I got out of high school? Or maybe if by then I wasn't good enough maybe I could take extra classes in college to improve? Also, will I ever go on pointe? I would really love to but My teacher doesn't think i'm ready yet. I'm so upset because I love dancing so much and am ready to become very dedicated. Also, what are dance companies looking for? I am tall and skinny but have bigger b*****s then many ballerinas? is this bad? I am extremely graceful and flexible but don't have great turnout? any exercise that work quick? will places not take me because my b***s are big? please help

  1. Are you my twin sister?  Seriously, we are nearly identical!  Scary!

But really, if you are good, then you may have a chance. I started lessons at 14, and four years later, auditioned for the national ballet company, making it through to the final 20.  I decided eventually that I didn't really want the lifestyle of a professional dancer, so I just do it for the love of it now.

It will be hard work for you, but hey, turnout isn't the end of the world, nor physical make-up.  there are all sorts out there in companies!

Good luck, hope you can realise your dream one day.

  2. if you want to be in a pro dance company that does performances of classic ballets (nutcracker, sleeping beauty, giselle...) then you might want to do more ballet and do less tap or hip hop

those girls who have been dancing their whole life should be jealous of you because it took you 2 years to be in a class that took them much longer

going on pointe too early can damage your feet forever... listen to your teacher. some studios put girls on pointe so that the studio will make more money

  3. Good question, first, know that you only started at 13 and you have only been dancing for 2 years, it's OK. Ok, I took your questions (and sentences) and answered them:

I can't help to be jealous though of the girls who have been dancing all their lives... Well, don't be jealous, if your in the same class as them, then that means that your REALLY good. You must have some talent. Don't ever feel bad about the fact that they have been in dance longer than you.

My teacher told my that I have come a long way and that I am a very good dancer... You probably have! And you should NEVER put yourself down. If your teacher says that, then it MUST be true, she is the one who sees you dance the MOST out of ANYONE!

I was wondering if I could ever be a professional dancer by the time I got out of high school? Probably not... I think that people who start later should take VERY intense dance classes all of the way through college. That way, you'll get the idea of what a company would be like. You need to stay serious and positive until that time. But, you might be good enough for it by that time. It would just be in the fate of the company.

Also, will I ever go on pointe? You will end up on pointe later than other girls. It's just because you started dance late, then you will start pointe late. But, don't kick yourself, it should only be a couple of years down the road. And, hey! It's not that bad to start late, at least your not 20! (LOL)

I would really love to start pointe but My teacher doesn't think i'm ready yet... Well, your teacher knows what's best for you. It's all going to come to you when your ready!

I love dancing so much and am ready to become very dedicated... Let me tell you something hun, if you love dance THIS much, then you already ARE dedicated!

What are dance companies looking for? Well, it depends on the dance company, well look at this:

Student company: It depends on the place you take dance, but some dance places have a thing called student company (Or some just call it company). You will need to audition for this but it's alot like the adult dance company that you will get to be in later. If your student company is like mine, it will all the way until your last year in high school. Student company looks for a giant strength in pointe though! :( I know how you feel!

A Dance Company: If you're in your last year in high school, then you can audition for a dance company! Happy auditioning! Oh, dance companies go from 1st year college to dance retirement! If you audition for them, then you need to keep up a high spirit and if something is hard, do the closest move to that, that YOU know! Um, you can get auditions tips from dance magazines!

I am tall and skinny but have bigger b*****s then many ballerinas, is this bad? Grrrrr! I hate it when dancers get so caught up in there looks. Look, if you dance good, then who cares the size of your b*****s. I have large b*****s and I am   VERY far in dance! Look up to that.

I don't have great turnout... any exercise that work quick?  Ok, this one is easy, just lie down on the ground, stomach on the ground, and bend your knees until your feet touch. This is called the frog, and it's a great turnout exercise! It should also remind you of doing a grande plee'.

Oh, and you didn't ask this, but when you start pointe, you WILL want this, buy the POINTE BOOK. It doesn't matter if you buy one edition or all! They are VERY helpful and available at DISCOUNT DANCE SUPPLY! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)!!

I hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, I hope you stay loyal to dance!
