  1. Members of the top ballet companies who are on the standard contract (meaning, not the top star performers who can negotiate their own contracts) can make between $30-$55K a year from their company. But since contracts don't last a whole year, they can also collect unemployment compensation or pick up short-term gigs between seasons.

However, there are just as many - or more - professional ballet dancers who aren't members of the top ballet companies and those dancers earn much less from their company jobs. They might get paid only a little bit for shows; others are luckier if they also get paid for rehearsals as well. The great majority of dancers need to supplement their incomes from their performance jobs with something else - typically teaching dance classes, but also food service, clerical, retail, etc.

  2. well to start off to the person in front of me, ballerinas do exist. havent you ever seen the nutcracker? i've seen it 4 times and robots dont just dance around the stage! they are real ppl! and as for your question i heard that they get paid for each show they perform and based on the level of achievement they are on.
