  1. My daughter's hair is about the same lenght. She has to put it up for ballet at least 3 times a week. I got her a huge box of hair nets.

She pulls it back into a ponytail. Wraps it up, then put the net on over the bun and take the end of the net and wrap it around the bun. She only uses one or two hair pins. The hair net is a pretty good size. I got a box of 100 for 20bucks at Gordon Foods outlet. It is the type that food workers put on their heads.  The net is big enough to put around the bun then wrap the excess around the base of the bun. It holds it great.  Don't braid your hair first, it makes it too thick.

  2. When I danced I also had really long hair. The best thing I found was to do what you are doing and then when putting the bobby pins in cross them in twos. Placing them in an x formation locks them into each other and your hair. Hope this helps I know it helped me

  3. so I use this amazing thing called a bun holder...any dance store has them... (http://www.alliedtrading.com/images/s_mi...

i had the same problem...just put ur hair in a pony tail, twist it into a bun and put one hair tie in...then put the bun holder into place...I prefer fabric ones, but they are wonderful!

  4. What you need is something called the hair s***w; these are double spiral shaped hairpins that literally s***w into the bun. I used to get mine from Claire's Accesories or similar places. These hold the hair much more tightly and securely than ordinary pins as they cannot slide out; it's impossible as they have to be screwed in. I have very long and very thick heavy hair; if I twist my hair into the classic bun and then secure with six hair screws, it'll stay all day even through sports.

google it and see where you can get some; they aren't expensive.

  5. your doing all that and it still falls out?!

mm just try getting one of the other girls to do your hair one day see if their technique works better..

if not lol get a hair cut!

  6. what i do is wrap my hair into a bun and use lots of hair bobbles/ties it works reli good but you have to do them tight.

the big fluffy type ones are reli good

  7. for my last ballet exam i got it done at the hairdressers. it doesnt cost too much and it would even stay in place in a scale 8 tornado lol .

  8. bobby pins

  9. Have you gone to Youtube and looked at Anaheim Ballet, they have a movie on how to do your hair in a bun and they use different hair styles, they have one specially for long hair.

  10. use a ton of bobby pins and pony tail holders. also try getting some hair nets (can get them anywhere hair stuff is sold) and wrapping them around your bun. for dance competitions i use hair glue ( got 2b glued) and it works really well for holding your hair in place when your doing doubles, triples and leaps. i hope i was some help!

  11. Get a hair net & wrap it arounf the bun part only, then use bobby pins to secure it.

  12. okay, i am also a ballet dancer with really long hair. what i use is hair pins which are very large, picture shown below and i make a layered bun.  you can reuse the hair pins

1st. i do the pony tail

2nd i split my pony tail into two parts

3rd. i either braid or twist both parts of the pony tail(but not together, leave them seperate)

4th. then i wrap one part around and hair pin it it, then i do the other.

5th. i  hairspray it and put a hairnet around it and pin it a little more

6th then you can put a scrunchie around it

    hope it stays in =]

  13. When you wrap your ponytail around, you need to twist the actually plait while wrapping for more secure pinning.  Also, wrap a little bit, pin it, wrap some more, pin it, wrap some more and pin.  Then end with more bobby pins & the hair spray.

You are actually doing it correct, your bun just needs to be pinned more securely.

  14. Hey, I feel your pain. I used to have really long hair and here is my basic solution:

1 - Put your hair in a tight ponytail in the middle of your head. Clip/hairspray any loose hairs.

2 - Braid your hair [I'm assuming you know how to do that, if not I'm sure you can find how online somewhere]. Secure with an elastic.

3 - Start wrapping the braid around your ponytail, securing with multiple bobby pins as you go. It helps to think about making it flat and wide, rather than small but sticking out from your head. Make sure that you bobby pin as you go, not all afterward.

4 - Wrap a hairnet around your bun as many times as possible without tearing it.

5 - Add in some last minute bobby pins on any loose bits.

    6 - LOTS of hairspray/gel. And that's it!

BTW - I would suggest getting some bobby pins made for thick hair, they might help. Get some here: http://www.scunci.com/product_detail.asp...

  15. Ask your teacher what he/she suggests. you might not have to do a bun every lesson. If you do use the many hairband technique: Ponytail, 2nd band halve the length tightly, 3rd band halve again tightly, etc. carry on until all up then finish with net and hairpins. you shouldn't have to use much hairspray. Hope this helps.
