Hi.

I'm gonna try American ballet for the first time in the beginning of Sept. I'm in the age range of 10-16, and I'm going to to to a beginner adult class. I have a few questions on American ballet:

* How many dance steps are in American ballet?

* For how may years will I be in beginner before I go to pointe?

* How can you get in Pointe in 1-2 years? and what do i have to do to achieve this?

*What if I do ballet in the weekends for 2-3 hrs and I practice about 30 min to 1 hr in weekdays?

Thx!

  1. You mean the School of American Ballet or SAB, if you are just starting ballet on a whim this is not the place for you.  This is a very serious program, all the alumini from the school are in the company that the school feeds into which is New York City Ballet.  The dance steps they are all different in their own way and there are too many to count, you better know them all.  Pointe, you better be on pointe because if you are very serious about this, you should have been training for years, and you didn't exactly specifiy your age but even if you are 10, if you have been dancing before and you should be preparing for pointe and about to go on pointe.  If, you are not on pointe already you should be training for it, and its a lot of hard work.  The amout of practice time: weekdays: 4-5 or 6 hours, weekend 8-10 hours, it's not something you do for an hour and your done you truly have to work very hard and if you are serious, I would highly reccomend privates.  Good luck. :)
