What are some exercises I can easily do at home to help improve my ballet technique?

  1. The key thing to do is stretch.  Ask your instructor and let them be the guide.  You have to build that relationship.


  2. Plies are great, ofcourse. They build strength and also stretch your muscles. Anything that you would do at barre is great for you. Keep up with those kicks too. To build strength, try doing the exercises that u usually do flat on fondue or releve.

    Remember to always stretch before dancing or using these muscles, it is so easy to pull muscles if you don't!! keep dancing!!

  4. For me, I like to take my foot and stretch it out or get someone else to point them for you. But don't sicle them.

    You could do some plies to stretch your tendons.

    Or, the splits to improve on your grande jettes.

    I've been doing these excersises for my whole life

    and I'm one of the top ballet dancers in my dance class

  6. The most important thing I think would be to stretch.  A good way to get your splits (if you don't already have them) is to stack a bunch of pillows up.  Then slide down into the splits on top of the pillows.  Take out a pillow each time you get more flexible.

    Crunches are also good because having a strong center is good for ballet.

    To get strength for your extensions, lift your knee as close to your body as you can as if you were doing a develope to the side.  Hold your leg up by wrapping your arm underneath it.  Then complete the develope by extending your foot toward the ceiling.  Do about ten of these on each leg.  They're really good for strengthening your hip flexors and hamstrings.

  8. go through each basic foot position on both right and left legs doing the following

    demi-plea (arm in front)

    demi-plea (arm at side)

    grand plea

    ponche forward

    congrea back

    susu up and do turns



    If you have a ballet bar, place one leg on top.  Turn out the foot on the floor and stretch.  Bring your nose to your knee on the bar, and so back.  From the hips, stretch side to side.  Keeping th bottom foot planted, slide the foot on the bar down the leg.  Bring your nose to your planted foot.  Go into arabesq and attitude repetidly.  Also, try a demi-plea, relave, straighten the leg, grand-plea, straighten and close.

  11. I think you may find that night time activities with your partner could be used to enhance your ballet technique. Your partner is an excellent source of support and guidance in these matters.
