Ballinahow Star has leading claims in John Ripley Retirement Mares´ Novices´ Hurdle at Exeter
Jeremy Scott’s dual point winner, Ballinahow Star, displayed an impressive show in a maiden hurdle at Wincanton last time, and seems in an ideal position to improve her record under rules. The punters should not ignore her while staking money in John Ripley
Retirement Mares´ Novices´ Hurdle, being hosted by Exeter on Thursday, December 20th.
After unseating her rider on debut, the 6-year-old started producing good results. She won a couple of races outside Great Britain, and continued the marvellous work when reached here.
In mid November, the bay mare seized the second position behind Young Victoria. After doing a great job here, the daughter of Definite Article registered a classy win at Wincanton. In the Racing Welfare William Hill Mares' Maiden Hurdle, she delivered a
fascinating performance in the hands of Nick Scholfield, and seized the first rank by one and a half lengths.
The 6-4 favourite held up towards the rear, but by making steady progress from the seventh hurdle, she led well before the wire. After establishing her dominance, she made no mistake, and secured the victory with ease.
Having shown a couple of fine runs, the Pillhead House Partners-owned is full of momentum, and could play a major role today. She is meeting half a dozen rivals over a distance of two miles and three furlongs. In pursuit of £2,599, the contestants will start
running at 15:20 GMT.
Wilde Ruby is the main danger. The 5-year-old won a couple of staying handicaps ahead of going on vacations in June. After crushing the opponents at Newton Abbot, she perpetuated her wonderful work, and took a surprise win over the 13-8 favourite, Mavalenta,
at Worcester. Returning from six months off, the Seamus Mullins-trained is likely to show further progress. So, one should not completely rule out her chances.
The competition revolves around these two. Out of others, no one is likely to make an impact. Oscar Jane showed bit of promise here last time, but has quite a bit to find today. Similarly, Brockwell Park needs significant improvement. The Jeremy Scott-trained,
who is a point winner, did not do much in Newbury novice last month.
