So, I am starting ballroom dance this September. I was just wondering what the class is going to be like. Do you have to dance with some random stranger? What if I don't like my partner? Please help. I need some tips and details on what the class is like.

  1. Group classes may vary, but most studios use a rotation system, so you'll dance with lots of random strangers during the 45 minutes or so the class lasts. Ballroom classes are not a dating service, so you don't have to like your partners. In case of halitosis or some other faux pas, you'll also get to practice your social skills.

You don't even have to like the instructor with whom you take private lessons, though it helps in developing a working relationship.

  2. You'll enjoy learning how to dance. One of the skills you'll need to learn is how to follow different partners. You don't have to like, or even know your partner. The only thing that counts is to dance together and hone your skills. If you join a class that does not require you to bring a partner, your teacher will likely rotate partners throughout the classes so you will not dance with the same partner all the time.

    Have fun.

  3. Normally in the beginners classes the instructor will teach the steps to the men and the women seperately, you will practice it on your own for a little bit then the instructor will partner everyone up. After a few mins of dancing with that person for a little bit, they'll get everyone to change partners. By the end of the class everyone would have danced with everyone.

When you go to dance with someone, to make sure it isnt awkward just like say hi, and afterwards say like that was good or thank you
