So I am going to start taking ballroom dancing classes soon and I don't know what to wear. Now I don't usually wear heels for I am kinda tall for my age and I feel like a giant haha. So ya I just don't want to show up at class looking trashy or to fancy. Please help me!

  1. The rule of thumb with ballroom there is no such thing as too fancy.

Wear something comfortable, washeable, and something that doesn't restrict yur movement. No jeans, no gym attire.

As for shoes - eventually you will find it benefitial to buy a pair of ballroom shoes. But for now wear a pair of dress shoes that you happen to have that has a closed back. You don't want it to slip it off your foot what you go backwards. Sneakers aren't good either cause they are designed for maximum traction, i.e. they stick to the floor.

  2. No denim, no shorts, no sneakers.

You don't have to wear heels, you should wear nice slacks, pants, or a skirt, a nice blouse.  Like business casual is usually acceptable at most studios.  Call and ask them, they are used to this question and prefer you ask, then show up incorrectly dressed.

  3. Usually, I just wear jeans or cargo pants with a tshirt to my classes, but my studio doesn't have a dress code. If you're unsure what to wear then a good choice is usually a plain top with sleeves (short sleeves are fine, just like a tshirt or something, because you don't want people to have to see sweaty armpits), and a knee length flowy skirt (i.e. something that you can take really big steps in if you have to). Hope this helps :)
