my mum & her friend have watched me dance b4 at my exam and they have told me i dance 2 stiff.

like, i focus more on the audiance and steps more. and that i should focus more on the music.

how can i learn to focus more on the music so i dont dance so stiff.

  1. listen to the music over and over and learn a percussion instrument.

  2. Well, what you should actually be asking yourself is, how much do your mother and her friend know about ballroom dancing? Are they experts on it? Have they even done it before? Because if they haven't danced before, then chances are what they consider to be stiff is actually a part of a normal ballroom frame. Ask your instructor if he/she thinks you dance too stiffly. Because that's who you should really be listening to anyway. Also, learning to relax while dancing isn't something that can really be taught, everyone is nervous as first. The relaxation comes with a lot of practice. The more you dance in front of people, the easier it gets.

  3. You aren't really in control. Also, your mum may not have a clear picture of your dancing. If she's watching during your exams, you're dancing figures at the edge of your comfort range. If you're dancing simple figures, you have more ability to focus on musicality. But that depends on your lead, doesn't it?
