Ballsmania Cup preview: Part three
The first night of the Ballsmania Cup will start Friday at Nottingham, and continue each Friday for six weeks. The Ballsmania Cup final will be run on November 19. We conclude our preview of the first night here with the final two races.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 5 (A7)
The first trap will see puppy, Swift Danica, attempt to win his first race. Last week, Danica took third place, but was 10 ¼ lengths back of second. The unproven pup could finish anywhere in this race.
Another puppy, Salacres Ravello, will race from the second trap. Ravello has had considerably better success in his young career than Danica, winning two races and finishing second twice.
Lisnakill Flo Jo has recently dropped from A6 to A7, and will race from the third trap. She did not look good in her first A7 race last week, finishing in fourth place.
Royofthedrovers has yet to race at the A7 level, and has yet to win a race at any level. A couple of third place finishes in his last two races could put his odds up, but don’t bet on him to win this one.
In the fifth trap is Cockers Lady, who hasn’t raced since May. Lady could be a wild card in her return to racing, but that’s a double edged sword for punters.
Clash Kir Royale will race from the sixth trap. Her recent races have been A7 races after dropping from A6. She has yet to win, but she also hasn’t finished below third.
The fifth leg features many hounds likely to finish in the top three, but few who are likely to win. Still, one of them has to take home the gold, so this race could be a good one to take a chance on by betting on a long shot.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 6 (A4)
Beechwood Raj won his first race in ten attempts on August 10, but then followed that race up with third and fourth place finishes. His last race was on August 28, in which he finished 10 ¾ lengths behind the third place finisher. He’ll race from the first
trap.
In the second trap is Swift Carmel, who has yet to perform well in A3 races, but won her last A4 race. She hasn’t raced since August 6, a sixth place performance.
Brocagh Crazy drew the third trap, and has been racing at the A2 and A3 level for the past year with mixed results. She won the only A4 race she’s raced in since 2008. She could have some rust to break off after not racing since July, but an A4 victory is
what she’s here for.
Salacres Penske hasn’t raced since late June, but he looked good finishing in the top three in every race that month. He’ll go from the fourth trap.
Roatan Rose has been in action of late, and that could give her an edge on the field. Unfortunately she’s also placed poorly in her last two races after winning on August 24. She’ll race from the fifth trap.
Mt Leinster Maid will race from the sixth trap. She doesn’t have much race experience, but finished second in her last race, which was an A3. The drop to A4 could provide Leinster Maid the wins she’s looking for. Another interesting note is that Maid has
won in her only two starts from the sixth trap.
Crazy and Maid will be the ones to look at in this race, with Maid the preferred choice if the odds make it worth it.
