Ballsmania Cup preview week 2: Part two
Nottingham will host the second week of the Ballsmania Cup Friday night. Here we preview the third and fourth legs.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 3 (A4)
Beechwood Raj will race from the first trap. Last week Raj took second place in the sixth leg of the Ballsmania Cup after rebounding from a poor start. He could again finish in the top three, and will have odds worth looking at.
Buffys Babe in trap two raced well in A5 races, but was completely outclassed last week in her first A4 race. Don’t put her in the top three in this one.
Salacres Option was winning consistently in A5 races, and has one win in four attempts since moving up to A4. The competition is tough in this race though. She’ll race from trap three.
In the fourth trap is Dunham Cooke. She’s won four of her last six, and lost the lead on the final stretch last week. A good start and Cooke may toast her competition Friday night with ease.
Right beside Cooke in trap five will be her kennel-mate, Dunham Tracy. Tracy has finished in the top three in three straight A4 races after moving up from A5. She should continue that trend, and challenge for top spot.
Windgap Hattie will go from trap six. She’s coming off an impressive 9¼ win last week, but it was in an A6 race. She was able to finish in the top three a few times earlier this year in A3 races, but has been up and down since then. She’s a risky pick, but
has the talent to win.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 4 (A6)
Climpy Moonbeam will race from the first trap. She’s a veteran, one of a very few still racing at five years of age. Her experience could help her break into the top three.
In trap two is Zigzag Zurleone. She’s finished third or better in her last five races, but she doesn’t always get off to good starts. She may not have what it takes in this race.
Kevins Dutchy has the opposite problem of Zurleone: he often gets off to good starts, but will surrender the lead late in the race. He’s recently dropped from A5 to A6, so he could have a big enough lead by the finish line that a drop off may not matter.
He’ll go from trap three.
In trap four is the young Dunham Maestro. He doesn’t have much experience, but was able to win his first two career races before finishing fourth in his last race. He’s a wildcard in this one.
Questhouse Milly will race from trap five. After winning her last A7 race, she’s finished fifth once and sixth twice in her past three races, all A6. Don’t bet on her to win.
In trap six is Darkness, who was terrible in eight A5 races before moving down to A6. Since then he’s finished in first and second, but he needed late pushes to come from behind in both those races. It could be Dutchy and Darkness neck-and-neck at the finish
line.
