Ballsmania Cup recap: Legs 1-3
The second round of the Ballsmania Cup at Nottingham with Distant Tigress taking the first leg. The Cup was established to give charities a chance to raise money by selling tickets for the event. It will
run for six weeks before the final on 19 October. The charity that earns the most points based on their assigned trap number from each week will be invited to return for the final.
Here we recap the first three legs of the Cup, which included two A4 races, and an A5 race. There were six legs that happened in total.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 1 (A4)
It was Distant Tigress in the first leg, winning her first race since August by 3¼ lengths over the 2-1 race favourite, Clover Walk, with a time of 31.17 seconds. Tigress and Focus Again were close early
on, but Tigress took the lead on the second bend while Focus dropped back into third place, finishing 1½ lengths behind Clover.
Another ½ length behind Focus in fourth was Kilroosky Lady, and a head behind her was Brocagh Crazy. Finishing in last place was Swift Carmel.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 2 (A5)
Droopys Affair took the second leg of the Ballsmania Cup by a ½ length over Salacres Simples with a time of 31.48, but it was 6-4 race favourite, Steadys Choice, who had the early lead. Choice lost his
lead on the third bend to Affair, and ended up falling all the way back to fifth place.
In third place was Estelles Boy, who finished ¾ lengths back of Simples. Another ½ length back in fourth was Ragtime Hawk. In last place, 3 lengths behind Choice, was Dunham Pendleton.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 3 (A4)
Windgap Hattie won the third leg by a head over Dunham Cooke with a time of 31.03, the fastest time of the Ballsmania Cup’s second week. Hattie ran from trap six, and took the lead from Cooke as they neared
the finish line. Cooke finished with the second fastest time of the legs, a mark of 31.04.
In third place, two lengths behind Cooke, was Salacres Option. Dunham Tracy, the 6-4 race favourite, finished 3½ lengths behind Option in fourth place, for a disappointing finish for punters looking for
the safest bet on the track.
In fifth was Beechwood Raj, and in sixth was Buffys Babe. Both Raj and Babe baulked on the first bend, taking them out of top three contention early.
