Ballsmania Cup recap: Legs 4-6
The Ballsmania Cup at Nottingham was established to give an opportunity to charities to raise money. Each week for six weeks, six charities are invited to Nottingham, and are assigned a trap number. The
charity whose trap does the best each week is invited back for the Ballsmania Cup Final on 19 October. The charities raise money by selling tickets for the event.
Here we recap the final three legs of week two of the Cup, which included two A6 races, and an A4 race.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 4 (A6)
Kevins Dutchy and Dunham Maestro were the 5-2 joint favourites in the fourth leg. The entire leg was close with the race winner, Dutchy, finishing only 0.2 seconds ahead of sixth place finisher, Climpy
Moonbeam.
Dutchy looked good in the first leg, taking the early lead and holding it for a one length victory over Zigzag Zurleone with a time of 31.76. Just a head behind Zurleone in third was Darkness, and the
other joint favourite, Maestro, took fourth. In fifth place was Questhouse Milly.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 5 (A6)
After earning the lead on the second bend, Swift Danica won the fifth leg with a time of 31.17. She finished 3¼ lengths ahead of Forza Melody. In third place was Dreamchaser, a length behind Melody.
Leg five also saw joint favourites, but this time neither could produce a top three finish. Angies Best and Corleones Donna came into the race with 5-2 odds, but finished fourth and fifth respectively.
In last was Amelia Mac.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 5 (A6)
The final leg of the second week again saw joint favourites, Monty Court and Grace (2-1), and again neither of them finished well, although Court did manage to take third place.
Instead it was Skyline Bella winning the leg after taking the lead on the second bend. She finished with a time of 31.19 and a ½ length ahead of Gowlane Raider. Court was just a head behind Raider, and
in fourth was Grace, a ½ length behind Court.
Finishing in fifth place was Beechwood Sleet, and in last was Millie Moonshine. Neither Sleet of Moonshine had significant difficulty getting out of the traps, or on any of the bends, they just weren’t
fast enough to compete, finishing far back of the other greyhounds.
The only favourite to win a race was Kevins Dutchy in the third leg.
