Ballsmania Cup week four preview: heats one and two
The Ballsmania Cup continues at Nottingham Friday. Each week for six weeks, six charities are invited to sell tickets to Nottingham. Each charity is assigned a trap number, and earns points based on how well the hounds assigned to those traps perform. The
top charity from each week is invited back on 19 November for the Ballsmania Cup final.
Ballsmania Cup Leg 1 (A2)
Fire Foods Nitro will race from the first trap. He’s young and inexperienced, but he’s got a perfect win record. Of course this will be his third career race.
Drive On Captain will race from trap two. He’s only finished in the top three once in his past six races, but half those races were A1 races. He could see a top three finish in this A2 race.
Hitches Hero was just a shoulder behind the winner in his last race, and has finished in the top three 11 times in his past 12 races; he also won three of those races. Hero will go from trap three.
In trap four is Road Station, who has only finished in the top three once in her past eight races. A bottom three finish is likely for Stationary...I mean Station.
Aghaburrne Perry is in trap five. He’s won three of his past 10 races, but has finished in the bottom three six times in that span. Most of those races have been A1, and the move to A2 could be what he needs to get back on top.
Perry’s toughest challenge will come from trap six as Salacres Bingo will race with the stripes. Bingo is sure to finish in the top three, it’s just a question of where.
Ballsmania Cup Leg 2 (A1)
In trap one is Sunshine Eddie, a punters' favourite, but with only one win in his past eight races, caution should be exercised if the odds are short.
Hondo Lad will race from trap two; he’s another A1 racer to go along with Eddie, and has had similar struggles with one win in his past nine races.
In trap three is Shedfield Forfun. She finished last in her most recent race, and fifth in the race before that. It will be difficult to pick her to win and feel confident about it.
In trap four is Mark My Words, winner of two out of five career races. Only her most recent race was an A1 race, in which he finished third. Still, Words should be able to finish in the top three of this race as well.
In trap five is Firecracker Jack. He hasn’t won since 10 July when he pulled off three victories in a row. Those wins were at the A2 level, and he’s been bumped to A1 since then. He should be one of the favourites to win the race.
Trap six will see Driving Up Pal try to win his first race in eight attempts. He finished last in his last race, but had three straight second place finishes before that, all of them close.
