Ballsmania Cup week four preview: heats three and four
Week four of the Ballsmania Cup will start on Friday in Nottingham. Six legs will give six charities a chance to raise money. Each charity will be assigned a trap, and earn points based on how well the hounds from that trap perform. The charity with the
most points will be invited back for the Ballsmania Cup final on 19 November.
Ballsmania Cup Leg 3 (A3)
Sunshine Dave will race from trap one. He hasn’t won a race since 20 April and will probably continue that trend at the Ballsmania Cup.
In trap two is Salacres Power. She hasn’t finished outside of the top three in 11 races, but also has only one win in that stretch. It’s almost a given that Power will take one of the top three spots, but which one is a question. She’s also known to have
slow starts; she’ll need to change that to win this race.
Speedy Ceedy will race from trap three. After posting back-to-back wins on 23 July and 6 August, he was bumped up to A2 races, and did not look good. Nor has he looked very good since his return to A3, five races ago.
Dunham Cooke has won five of her past eight races, most of them A4 races. She’ll be looking to take another race here, and could do it in a generally weak field. She’ll race from trap four.
In trap five is Clover Luck. He won’t be the favourite, but could be a lucky one to bet on. He’s finished in the top three in his last three races, and has one win in those races.
Trap six will house Fabulous Gracie, who has finished in the top three in five of six races since being bumped from A4 to A3.
Ballsmania Cup Leg 4 (A5)
Steadys Choice will race from trap one, he’s a good choice to finish in the top three despite finishing fifth in his last race.
Swift Danica is coming off two straight wins, in A7 and A6 races. She’s only got five races under her belt, but has been improving with each race. She’ll be a favourite, but her inexperience could be a factor.
Oneco Martha has won her past two races after three straight fifth place finishes. Her wins came in A6 races, and the three before that in A5 races. It doesn’t take a soothsayer to figure out where she’ll finish in this race. She’ll race from trap three.
In trap four is Dunham Pendleton, who seems to finish in the middle of the pack no matter which class she’s racing in. Don’t expect a win from Pendleton, but a third or second place finish would not be a surprise.
In trap five is Dunham Wizard, a probable favourite in leg four. He’s young and hasn’t looked good in A5 races so far, but his times have been improving consistently, and he should challenge for first in this race.
The sixth trap will see Lucerne Lass try to improve upon her usual slow starts. She did win her last race, although it was an A6 race.
