Ballsmania Cup week two preview: Part one
The Ballsmania Cup continues at Nottingham Friday night. It’s the second week of six leading up to the Cup final on 19 November. Each week six different charities are assigned a trap number. They earn points based on how the dogs from their trap finish in
six different races. The charity with the most points from each week will be invited back for the Cup final.
Here we preview the first two legs of week two of the Ballsmania Cup.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 1 (A4)
Swift Carmel will run from the first trap in the first leg. Last week Carmel finished fifth in the sixth leg of the Ballsmania Cup, a race that saw all six racers finish in tight. If the first leg on Friday is as close, Carmel could finish anywhere.
In the second trap is Distant Tigress. She hasn’t won a race since winning two to start August, but she’s been racing in A3 races since those wins. Her return to A4 races could see her finish in the top three.
Brocagh Crazy finished third last week in the same race Carmel ran in. The veteran has been declining in the past few months, but could have another couple of wins left in her.
Focus Again drew the fourth trap. She won two straight A5 races before getting bumped to A4; since then she has one third place finish and two last place finishes.
Drawing the fifth trap was Clover Walk, who hasn’t finished worse than third in her last seven races. She should be the favourite in this one and with good reason.
Kilroosky Lady hasn’t won a race since March, an A2 race. She’s been racing in A4 races since 13 July with mixed results. She’s taken second a number of times, and is a threat to win this race, but more likely she’ll finish between fourth and second.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 2 (A5)
Steadys Choice should be the race favourite in the second leg, and will race from trap number one. He’s done well in his past four A5 races, with one win and two second place finishes. On 7 September he raced in an A4 race and finished last. He may be the
hound to beat, but it may not be difficult to do so.
In the second trap is Ragtime Hawk, a hound that has finished in sixth and first in his past two races. He is not known to get off to good starts, but will need one to compete in this race.
Estelles Boy will go from the third trap. He won his last A5 race on 10 August, then moved up to A4 and hasn’t finished in the top three since.
Droopys Affair hasn’t won a race since May and will race from trap four. He’s a good bet to finish second or third, but probably not first.
In the fifth trap is Dunham Pendleton, he won a T3 race to start September, but followed it with fourth and third place finishes.
In trap number six is Salacres Simples. He finished fifth in the third leg of last week’s Ballsmania Cup, but before that he had finished in the top three in his past eight races. Simples could pay off in this one.
