Ballymac Ace lands Pall Mall final
Ballymac Ace remained unaffected last night represented in the orange jacket as he went on to landing the £8,000 final of the Stanjames.com Pall Mall at Oxford over 450m.
There were some concerns to whether or not the 3-1 co-favourite would perform well enough from trap five, but Ace managed not only to win the category one event but also clocked the fastest time (26.38sec) of the competition.
The Chris Allsopp trained charge was out-trapped in the start by Carly Philpott’s Anagram (co-favourite) who sadly broke down at the first bend, and from that point onwards the race was always going Ace’s way as he stormed clear along the back straight to beat Step On Lee (10-1) by four and a half lengths.
Allsopp’s first thoughts after the race were with Anagram and connections. “It’s such a shame the two dog has gone lame, it’s definitely taken the edge off it,” he said.
The night ended badly for Philpott whose Bettor.com Scottish Derby winner Nambisco also finished last when trialing the field in an earlier 450m open.
Last night’s result marks Ace’s sixth consecutive victory and it may not be long before you see him behind the traps again.
Allsopp said: “He will now trial at Sunderland next week ahead of the williamhill.com Classic.”
Lyreen Mover’s connections have also been eyeing up a return to the UK after a successful English Derby campaign. The Hungarian trained charge missed out on £75,000 prize by half length in May’s final and is set to trial at Sunderland next Monday for £25,000 williamhill.com Classic.
