Baltic Baroness triumphs in Prix Cleopatre
Baltic Baroness weathered the storm from her rivals to claim the Prix Cleopatre (Group 3) at Saint-cloud in France on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. She had been rated as the favourite to succeed, but almost suffered an upset defeat in the end.
There was a lot of pressure exerted on the young filly, but she proved that she was capable of handling such situations and finished on top of the table after a thrilling encounter.
There were a lot of ups and downs in the race and no one could tell whether who would finish on top of the table overall. The punters would have had their hearts in their mouths, as they had placed the maximum number of bets in favour of the favourite challenger.
Once the race started, Baltic Baroness looked to pressurise her opponents and tried to gain an early advantage. However, her rivals were up to the task and ran extremely quick after the traps were opened.
Due to this, the three-year-old filly had to change her tactics and she started preserving some energy. Once the finish line approached, she started gaining speed and got ahead of her rivals by a short neck distance in the end.
Her jockey Maxime Guyon was pleased with the performance and stated, “She confirmed what she showed us last time when we were caught by a filly who finished really well. She showed a good turn of foot and then dug in well to hold on at the line.”
Gestut Ammerland representative Crispin de Moubray added: “I think perhaps the better ground helped but, above all she is a filly who continues to improve, as she's from a family which takes time.”
Overall, this was just the fourth outing for Baltic Baroness and she has really shown signs of dominance over her rivals. She has dropped out of the top three just once until now and will be looking to continue delivering better results in the future.
However, the German filly will be looking to increase her winning strike rate with the passage of time in order to pose threat to the best in the business.
