Baltimore Orioles' executive vice president Dan Duquette puts emphasis on strikeout-to-walk ratio
The Baltimore Orioles' new executive vice president Dan Duquette is currently busy trying to bring a little consistency to the team’s strikeout-to-walk ratio. Initially when this news came out in the media, the majority of baseball pundits were pretty sure that Duquette is only considering upgrading his team’s on base percentage. However, as soon as they knew about this new development, several Major League teams are now looking at Duquette’s late statistical tools.
“You will see that we’re adding to the pitching staff with pitchers that good command and quality stuff, as evidenced by the low walks and high strikeouts,” Duquette told reporters Monday.
Before becoming a vice president of the Orioles, Duquette had served many MLB teams. From farm system to managing Major League teams, Duquette knows the nitty-gritty of the game itself. Started somewhat as general manager of Montreal Expos in 1991, Duquette went on to head the Boston Red Sox in 1994. His professional career weighs huge experience as his knowledge and skills were proven in Israel’s inaugural baseball league where he played a key role leading the project.
Experts say, with the expansion of his role in the Orioles franchise, more positive things will come giving them more stability towards some excellence. Not only is he preparing some strategies to upgrade the Orioles’ strikeout-to-walk ratio, on-base percentage but also working on upgrading their current starting roster for the next season.
Duquette, who is also making progress bringing Manny Ramirez in the team, recently has told the media, "We're aware that Manny is on the market and we've had exploratory talks with his agent and we've seen him work out, We're still considering the composition of the club and some of the challenges integrating a player like Manny into our ballclub and market. So that's really all I can say about it right now."
For some it might look difficult that before start of the 2012 season Duquette will achieve all his goals regarding the Orioles’ development but many also believe his current level of commitment is going to benefit the Baltimore Orioles in a huge way next season.
