Baltimore Orioles’ Andy MacPhail gives his opinion on manager Buck Showalter’s comments – MLB Update
The situation in Sarasota, Florida, seems to be progressing at an awkward pace for the Baltimore Orioles, at the moment. The club recently faced off against one of the teams that were on the receiving end of some stingy comments issued by the manager Buck
Showalter.
The skipper recently had an interview with a popular magazine and even though the details of the event were to be shared to the public in April, some ball stars got a hold of the copy. Most of the negative references Showalter made came against the New York
Yankees’ short-stop, Derek Jeter, and the Boston Red Sox general manager, Theo Epstein. Even though Baltimore’s captain claims the comments were taken out of context, many critics are responding to the fiasco.
Terry Francona, manager of the Boston Red Sox, was one of them. He was not happy about the comments that targeted his boss and he voiced his disappointment in the Baltimore skipper as a consequence. The club’s President of Baseball of Operations, Andy MacPhail,
had an opportunity to talk of the situation and he thought it was nothing special. He was not surprised by the comments and the hype it brought forth to New England.
"It's probably not my first choice [for airing opinions], but I don't really think it's a big deal," said MacPhail, who added. "If that's how [Showalter] feels, that's how he feels.”
"I think we all understood when we interviewed Buck, one of the things we were looking to get was somebody that has a personality about him, has some success," MacPhail added. "This is part of it. You raise the profile of the team, which is a good thing,
and we've just got to do everything we can to make sure we play as well as we can. Which we've done."
MacPhail calls himself a conservative and believes the major focus should be targeted towards the game of baseball. Showalter will not taking much notice of the controversy this topic picks up in the coming days.
