Baltimore Orioles’ Chris Davis in smashing mode, ballclub awaits reports on Robert’s Hamstring
The Baltimore Orioles made a sound start to their 2013 campaign with a successful away series against the Tampa Bay Rays at the Tropicana Park. Heading into the final game on Friday, April 4 with the series tied, the birds showed their metal to secure a
6-3 win.
First baseman Chris Davis has been smashing his way around and has become the first player to score three or more RBI’s in the opening three games of the season for his team. He has homered in all three games as well, becoming the first Oriole to do so after
Frank Robinson who achieved the feat way back in 1920.
The O’s picked runs in set of two’s and scored in the second, sixth and eighth innings. Davis has so far posted a mercurial .636 batting average and a .692 on-base percentage. He is 7-for-11 and has hit six extra base hits.
His 11 RBI’s are more than 16 ballclub’s have scored so far in the season. The 27-year-old is pleased by the fact that the team performed well against a highly regarded pitching unit. The amount of runs that the Orioles have scored is quite amazing.
"Any time you come in here, you know you're going to have to just grind out at-bats. Their pitching staff is one of the best. I think it's something to be proud of, the fact that we scored as many runs in three games as we did and to come out of here with
two wins," Davis said.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore ballclub is sweating over reports of Brian Roberts who had to be taken off the field after he attempted a stolen base and damaged his hamstring in the process. The 35-year-old has yet to play a full season since his injury troubles
started in 2009 and the extent of the latest setback is yet to be known.
The second baseman is not thrilled since he was making a comeback. Roberts has had decent form with a 5-for-12 so far. He has gone long once and has been showing some good signs for his team.
It was towards the end of the run that he felt something happened. Roberts, a veteran in his 14th season with the O’s, is not certain what it was though.
"Somewhere in the last couple of steps, I felt something kind of pop in the back of my knee," Roberts said.
The Orioles have certainly made a strong start and instead of talking a big game, they seem to be concentrating on playing it that way. Davis is certainly on a hot streak and the batting and pitching units seem to be delivering.
If this is the sign of things to come, we may have another great season from the Baltimore ballclub and all the prediction of yet another bottom of the table finish may be just talk.
