Baltimore Orioles’ Chris Davis smashes a grandslam, Minnesota Twins go down 9-5 in series opener
Chris Davis is most certainly in the hottest form of his life. In the four games thus far in the season, the first baseman has driven in 16 runs and has hit a home-run in each of the innings, joining an elite group of four players to have achieved this feat.
The Baltimore Orioles as a result are sitting on top of the American League East table with a 3-1 winning record.
The pitching from starter Jake Arietta though was not the best as he surrendered seven hits and five runs in five completed innings. The great batting by the hitters actually helped mask this issue to some extent but the team will need to improve its pitching
since they have been surrendering more runs than they would like.
Minnesota Twins appeared to be in reasonable control of the game until the bottom of the eight when the O’s managed to add five runs to their tally. Twins were leading by 5-4 at this point in time.
The event obviously brought a lot of joy to the 46000 plus Orioles’ fan at Camden Yards which was filled to capacity. It was the first home game for the birds this season and they have made a perfect start.
Chris Davis meanwhile is happy because the team has gotten off to a good start and is not too bothered about his own record breaking performance. He is glad that the team has won three of the four games it has played.
He believes that some of the guys stepped up to the plate in Spring Training and the good effects are showing in the regular season as well.
"I'm more excited about the three wins," Davis said. "There's a lot of good things going on in here. We started that in Spring Training. It was relaxed, we are having fun, but taking care of our business. A lot of guys stepped up and showed what they are
capable of doing, and we carried that into the season so far."
Manager Buck Showalter believes that he has not seen a hot streak such as the one Davis is currently on and he is glad to have him on his side.
“You all know I'm usually one of those guys who can probably think back and take it [into context]," said manager Buck Showalter said. "I'm glad he's on our side."
Currently the Orioles are riding the crest and the performances show that they have carried the good work from the previous season into this one. There was a lot of criticism on the management about not making too many moves in the off-season in 2012.
It now appears that Buck Showalter’s theory of some of the best moves are made by not making them may actually pay off for the Baltimore ballclub.
