Baltimore Orioles’ Cuban Minor Leaguer Henry Urrutia has sights on the Majors - MLB News
The Baltimore Orioles have found a decent option for a left fielder in shape of Henry Urrutia who was signed by the ballclub from Cuba. Henry is a switch hitter who is currently playing as a left hander and is a part of the O’s Spring Training.
He is happy about the chance and is looking to go all the way to the top level and is working hard in that direction. So far he has gotten some rave reviews from the Orioles’ management which is never a bad thing for someone just starting out his career
in the Minor League.
Dan Duquette, the executive president of baseball operations seems to be happy with what he has seen so far. Dan feels that the decision by Henry to hit left handed instead of both ways is one of the better decisions in the favour of the youngster. Duquette
feels he bats better that way.
"He has a really good bat from the left side," Dan Duquette said.
Urrutia was signed by the Orioles with a $778,500 bonus can be a useful addition to the birds. He has been recommended by some big names and Felipe Alou Jr., the director of the Orioles’ Dominican Republic Academy feels that he is really talented and a very
good catch for the Orioles’ organisation.
Alou feels that Henry already has his eyes set on the big stage.
"His idea is not to play [in the] Minor Leagues," Alou said. "When he got out of Cuba, his dream is to be a big league player.”
Manager Buck Showalter too was all praise for the Cuban and said that he is a pretty polished guy. He feels that Urrutia a pretty impressive fellow though he has yet to come across his full set of skills. Buck also sees that Henry has his eyes set at the
Major League and is moving in the right direction for that.
"This is a pretty polished guy," said Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter. "I can't tell you about baseball for sure, but I can tell you the rest of it is pretty impressive. He understands what he's getting ready to do.”
The manager feels that the 26-year-old has played a good level of baseball and skills are showing that. He sees Henry as a confident player.
"He's engaged. You can tell this is a guy that's played a high level of baseball. He's a confident kid." Showalter said.
The words coming out of the various important personalities in the Orioles set up to show a good bit of trust in Henry Urrutia. One can hope that he can prove to be a useful addition to the birds and can live up to his dream and potential in Major League
Baseball.
