Baltimore Orioles Nolan Reimold, Wei-Yin Chen looking to be back in full fitness - MLB News
Baltimore Orioles are hoping that their pitcher, Wei-Yin Chen and outfielder, Nolan Reimold, be back with full fitness and can start their rehab assignments.
Nolan was put on the disabled list due to hamstring trouble and he has been able to have sprints. The hitter has not had the greatest of time in the current season and has posted a .188 batting average.
Reimold expects to be playing for the Bowie Bay Sox, the Double-A affiliate of the Orioles which is based in Maryland who will be home in coming days, he hopes that he can continue the progress that he so far
made.
"Bowie's at home Tuesday, from what I hear," Reimold said. "That's what I'm shooting for. I'm going to go out and sprint today. ... It's feeling better, I've made a lot of progress."
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter wants Nolan to have a full go in the Minors under the supervision of special assistant Terry Crowley. Buck feels that Nolan can be designated hitter upon his return to get him
going.
"I want him to be a full go," Showalter said. "[Special assistant Terry Crowley] will handle it. He may DH a day or two. I'll let Terry handle that. And Nolan. Let them handle where he goes. He's been removed
from at-bats for a while now. And it'll be more than a one or two day thing."
As for Chen who had a strained oblique, the manager feels that it is up to Rick Adair, the pitching coach for the O’s to decide when the pitcher should get going with the Minor League affiliates of the Baltimore
Orioles. Wei-Yin will travel with the team in the upcoming assignments.
"At some point him and Rick will decide when he needs to go out and pitch [for an affiliate]," Showalter said.
Wei played in eight ballgames this season as the starting pitcher. He has had a 3-3 win-loss record with a decent 3.01 ERA.
It’s good news for the Orioles that two of their important players are getting back into full fitness and will be able to serve them well in time to come.
