Baltimore Orioles’ Nolan Reimold looking to make a strong comeback - MLB News
Baltimore Orioles’ outfielder Nolan Reimold is looking to make a strong comeback next year for the team as he goes through the rehabilitation process for the season ending neck surgery he had to repair herniated disks.
Orioles on the other hand are currently looking at various options including players in left field, a position occupied by Nolan prior to his injury.
The Orioles are in contact with Nate McLouth, who was their man in left field in the absence of Reimold and is currently a free agent. There have also been rumours about the team showing interest in Jonny Gomes. It is obvious that the ball club wants to
make sure that they have their options open and also have some depth in their roster.
Nolan is awaiting an X-ray in December which will show whether his neck has completely recovered or not. He will go ahead with full training regime once given a clean bill of health. The 29-year-old understands that his return to the Orioles may not be at
a position of his choice.
"I will be planning on playing left field, unless someone tells me otherwise," said Reimold. "So that's what I will be focused on playing for the rest of the offseason. Obviously, I will take anything else [the organisation does] and turn it into motivation
to get better."
The hitter’s year was faring rather well when it was interrupted by injury. He had a batting average of .313, posting 10 RBI’s and going long on five occasions in just 67 at-bats. He hit the disabled list on May 1 and eventually had surgery in later part
of June.
Nolan also dispelled notions that he was someone prone to injury and he had missed very little time in the last few seasons.
"I haven't missed any significant time since 2007," he said. "I shut myself down at the end of the season in '09, when I was told it would be a four-month recovery for the Achilles [torn tendon surgery]. I missed the last few weeks to get a head start on
that. [I] didn't miss any time in 2010, 2011.”
The right-hander from Greenville, Pennsylvania was drafted in the second round by the Orioles in 2005. He made his debut in the Major League in 2009 with the Orioles. He has had a decent career in the limited playing time he has seen. He has a batting average
of .261 with 114 RBI’s and 36 home-runs. In 2009, his rookie year has so far been the highlight of his career and remains the only season when he got a chance to play over 100 games.
Nolan is a talented player who can perform well in the long run. What his role will be in the upcoming season with the Baltimore Orioles is yet to be seen. His keenness on continuing to play in any role is indeed praiseworthy.
