Baltimore Orioles astonish Tampa Bay Rays with 6-2 win – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles gave another blow to Tampa Bay Rays overpowering them in the second straight night to take the series 2-1, played at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Wednesday, September 14.
A win was the result of a home-run blitz by Nolan Reimold, Chris Davis and Matt Wieters. Each of these players launched a home-run to help the Orioles send the wild card potential Rays into trouble.
Reimold led the game off with a ballistic home-run off the Rays’ starter Wade Davis to provide his club 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Ben Zobrist, B.J. Upton and Matt Joyce joined to score a double to take the Rays into a 2-1 leading position in the top of the fourth. However, a 382-feet long three-run home-run by Chris Davis destroyed all the hopes of the Rays to get a spot in the wild-card
race.
Oriole’s starter Jeremy Guthrie on the other hand, had created real trouble for the Rays' batting squad with his unplayable pitching. A pitcher, who struggled throughout the season proved devastating for the League’s top team. Guthrie allowed only three
hits over seven innings and gave away just two runs.
His ten strike-outs played a vital role in the Orioles dominating series win over the rivals. This win created some improvement in Guthrie’s record, taking him to 8-17 with a 4.22 ERA.
While the game was already in the Orioles side, Matt Wieters entered the plate and launched his 20th home-run of the season. This hit cemented the Orioles win.
Rays will now have to pray for the defeat of their competitors. New York Yankees are leading the League with 90 wins while Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox are holding the second and third spot respectively. Rays are tied in the fifth spot with Los Angeles
Angels and both clubs will have to win all of their remaining outings to turn things into their favour.
Rays manager is aware they have received a serious blow. Tampa Bay will be looking nervously at the other games being played and hope that their chances for a wild-card spot in the post-season is still a real possibility.
