Baltimore Orioles avoid arbitration with Adam Jones; agree on a one-year deal
Finally the Baltimore Orioles have agreed with Adam Jones on a mutual understanding of $6.15 million one year deal in order to end the arbitration battle.
“We are glad we agreed to terms with Adam and we look forward to another good year from him in center field and at the plate, He was our player of the year last year, He's a dependable player and we're glad to have him,” said Dan Duquette, the club’s executive vice president of baseball operations.
Later, Adam Jones’ agent, Nez Balelo, co-head of CAA Baseball, released the following statement: “Adam is pleased we were able to come to terms and avoid a hearing. We appreciate Dan and the organization's professional approach in finding common ground. We look forward to working with him and his staff in the future.”
Former Seattle Mariners player and one-time All Star and Gold Glove Award winner, Jones earlier asked for $7.4 million while his team offered $5 million. The argument between two parties was heating up as the arbitration hearing came closer. However, not only did both sides agreed on one final conclusion on late Tuesday night but both also promised to work together in full during the upcoming season for more consistent results.
Jones is a good player and this late decision will benefit ultimately the Orioles in the near future. Last season, Jones went with a .280 hitting average along with 25 home-runs, 83 RBIs and .319 OBP. On the other hand, his career .275 batting average along with 75 homers, 291 RBIs and .319 OBP also makes him a very productive player.
Many baseball experts agree on the fact that Jones is certainly a good player and his five years’ experience will also add up for his future success. However, avoiding arbitration with Jones has also put the Orioles' management upfront in their division to outdo some three to four teams without any extra pressure. They now can play more open with their existing roster, which has never showed any loop holes in their game during the last regular season as well.
