Baltimore Orioles beat Boston Red Sox 6-3 to win series 3-1 at the Camden Yards – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 6-3 to win the series 3-1 on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the Camden Yards.
This was their sixth consecutive series win against the Boston ballclub and their ninth out of the tenth series win.
The win was a combination of some great pitching by Miguel Gonzalez and some extremely good hitting by the Orioles’ batters who came to the party against Jon Lester of the Red Sox who has had some great success against the birds in the recent times.
The game saw first baseman Chris Davis get his hundredth career home-run and get three RBI’s as well. He still leads the Major League with 23 home-runs to date.
Miguel Gonzalez, who is expecting his first child in a few days, was pretty amazing during the game as well with his pitching. He only surrendered five hits in the game. The only scoring shot came in the seventh innings when Will Middlebrooks went deep for
a three-run home-run to bring his night to an end after a touch over six innings.
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter was pleased with the result. He said that they had recently played the Red Sox enough to know all about them. Buck fells that pitching is the main factor against the Boston ballclub and his club did quite well in that department
in this series.
“Play Boston as much as we do in the spring and last year and this year, there aren't many secrets,” Showalter said. “You kind of line up and know you're going to play some competitive games, you hope. But it all plays off your pitching. We pitched well
this series.”
The scoring started in the bottom of the third innings when the O’s got three runs courtesy of an RBI double by Adam Jones and a two-run home-run by Chris Davis.
A throwing error in the fifth allowed the birds another run before Chris Davis got an RBI double to make the lead 5-0. After the three-run ball by the Red Sox in the seventh, J.J. Hardy got an RBI single to help birds take a three-run lead which was maintained
till the end.
Chris Davis, the star first baseman, is quite pleased by the way his team played and knows the importance of winning against your division opponents.
“Just to get on a roll,” Davis said. “Anytime we can rattle off some wins against a division opponent it's a good thing, especially these guys, knowing they're in first place. We're definitely happy the way the series went.”
It is an important series win which has further strengthened the Orioles’ position in the American League East. With the season nearing the half way mark, it is big time that all teams start getting their act together.
