Baltimore Orioles beat Cleveland Indians 6-3 to arrest four game skid – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles were able to arrest their four game skid by beating the Cleveland Indians 6-3 on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the Camden Yards. The rebound was aided by a five-run bottom of the seventh innings.
The win was the sixth consecutive for Chris Tillman, his longest streak at the Major League level. He currently has an impressive 9-2 winning record this season. Jim Johnson made his 27th save of the season as well.
Tillman earned some accolades from O's manager Buck Showalter as well for his good performance. He sees him as a good team man who is very competitive.
“Tilly's a good teammate,” Showalter said. “As you get to know him, there's a lot beating in there. Very competitive guy.”
The Indians appeared to control the game for the initial part as they went 3-0 up in the fifth innings. The Orioles were able to get a run back when Adam Jones reached home plate with J.J Hardy ground out and Chris Davis forced out. It was, however, the
seventh innings when the birds really came to the party with the bat.
Chris Davis got his 28th home-run of the season to score two runs and get the O's back on level terms with the Indians. The surprise package, however, was Alexi Casilla who went long with two bases loaded to drive in three runs. It was his first homer since
August last year and it could have not been timed better.
Chris Davis was all praise for Alexi and said that everyone was hoping he gets a base hit. However, he provided the dugout with a bit of adrenaline rush.
“It was awesome,” Davis said. “I think everybody's pulling for him right there, obviously trying, hoping that he'll just get a base hit. Then he does that, provided a little bit of a jolt of adrenaline for everybody.”
It is an extremely important win for the Orioles as the team has struggled just a little off late, particularly with pitching. This win should settle the nerves somewhat and allow them more space to breath in the neck to neck American League East.
