Baltimore Orioles beat Cleveland Indians 9-8 to level series – MLB Update

Baltimore Orioles showed great fighting spirit and mental strength as they edged the Cleveland Indians 9-8 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland in the second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
J.J. Hardy, once again made the most of available scoring opportunities. The striker reached first base safely on a throwing error to level the score 1-1. Wilson Betemit, who is having an excellent time on the plate this season, doubled to deep-right in
the first inning and Chris Davis earned an RBI groundout to third to put the Orioles 3-1 ahead.
"It was a battle," Wieters said. "We haven't been able to come out on top of those, and we really worked to get that win."
"I had a bad feeling about it," manager Manny Acta said. "It's bad news for us, especially a young kid like him. It's always tough seeing a young guy getting his feet wet, getting better and then all of a sudden, an injury like that."
"When I looked up and I saw it go out, I just started smiling," Xavier Avery said in a post game interview.
Wieters homered to right in the sixth inning to restore Orioles’ two run lead. Xavier Avery finally managed to hit a home-run with a solo shot in the eighth inning. Credit must be given to the Indians for putting up a brilliant fight but they were outplayed
in some finer details of the game.
In some ways, it was huge win for the Orioles who have won just three out of their last 10 games. Not too long ago, Buck Showalter and company were placed at the top of the American League East Division standings table and it seemed they will have one of
the finest seasons in history of the club.
However, struggling to maintain the consistency in the results, the Orioles have now moved to second place on the league table and it will be interesting to see if they can replace the leaders New York Yankees, who are four games ahead of them at the moment.
