Baltimore Orioles beat Detroit Tigers 5-2 at the Comerica Park – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles beat the Detroit Tiger 5-2 on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Comerica Park in front of a nearly 35000 people.
A couple of home-runs drove the runs for the birds who overcame Justin Verlander who had never lost a game against the Orioles in 13 outings.
Justin after the game felt that it was the Adam Jones three-run home-run that hurt him the most. Pitcher missed his mark and set it up perfectly for Adam who went deep to put this team in a very strong position.
“The one that really hurt me, fastball-wise, was the one to Jones,” said Verlander. “You know first pitch, he was up there jumping, trying to ambush me first-pitch fastball, and I gave it to him. But it wasn't well-located, it was up and almost middle, outer
half, right where he wanted it.”
The birds rallied in fourth and fifth innings. J.J. Hardy went long for a two-run ball in the fourth innings to put the O’s in front. Adam Jones made it even better with a three-run home-run in the fifth innings to make a lead 5-0.
Tigers replied with a home-run by Matt Tuiasosopo in the bottom of the fifth innings. They were able to add another run with Austin Jackson’s RBI single. However, they did not further score in the rest of the game.
Zach Britton recorded the win and the save as placed in front of Jim Johnson’s name who now is the leading pitcher in saves with 26 this season thus far.
Adam Jones expressed his preference of playing the Tigers’ bullpen which is quite good but does not measure up to Justin Verlander. Justin can get his pitches near the hundred miles per hour mark and can be quite difficult to handle.
“Their bullpen's pretty good, but you'd rather face their bullpen than face Verlander,” said Jones. “And especially in the later innings, he gets a tad angry and he hits that 98, 99 [mph] mark.”
J.J. Hardy said that he was blanked when he connected and he is happy with the end result.
“I feel like I just kind of blacked out and I'm happy about it,” Hardy said.
The Orioles had a great win against one of the best teams in all of Major League. The win also brings them closer to the top spot in the American League East and importantly further away from the New York Yankees who currently occupy the third spot.
