Baltimore Orioles beat Houston Astros 4-1 at the Minute Maid Park – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles hit the road with a success as they beat the Houston Astros 4-1 at the Minute Maid Park Tuesday, June 4, 2013.
Some fielding errors by the Houston Astros fielders as well as some great pitching by Chris Tillman, the starting pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles who has a perfect four game winning record on the road this season, marked the game.
Tillman currently has a 5-2 winning record in 2013. He pitched a total of seven innings in the game surrendering just four hits and a single run.
The pitcher was happy with the support from the defence, particularly Adam Jones who made some spectacular plays to help the team win. Chris believed that the knowledge of having a good defence makes the life of a pitcher a lot easier.
“Not that we enjoy giving up outs like that but it's fun to watch that guy play,” Tillman said. “Knowing what our defense is capable of behind us, I think we pitch to them.”
The birds were the first to enter the scoreboard courtesy of a Danny Valencia home-run in the top of the third. A fielding error allowed Adam Jones to reach first base and Manny Machado to home plate in the same innings.
Brandon Barnes brought the lone Astros’ run with a long ball in the bottom of the sixth. A throwing error in the eight allowed O’s to score their third in the eighth innings. Ryan Flaherty had an RBI single in the top of the ninth innings to add insurance
to the lead.
Jim Johnson closed the game without any hiccups and gave a single hit before retiring the batters in the bottom of the ninth.
The game brought an end to a winning streak of six games for the Astros who have improved substantially recently. The Orioles posted their seventh successive win over the Houston ballclub.
Buck Showalter, the Orioles’ manager, was pleased by the outcome. His team has been extremely consistent on the road and has maintained an 18-12 winning record.
The manager felt that there was a need of a certain discipline to succeed in the road games. He also felt that each player has to be committed to the cause for success. Buck had some kind words for Chris Tillman as well who did a fantastic job with his pitching.

“Winning on the road requires discipline,” said Showalter. “They have such a commitment to each other as teammates, they don't want to do anything that jeopardize them being in a position to make a contribution. And Chris has done a good job of that. And
if that's maturity, so be it.”
It was a good win for the Orioles who have won ten of their fourteen games. It is crucial that they continue the momentum as the race to lead the American League East gets even tighter.
