Baltimore Orioles beat Los Angeles Angels 3-2 at the Camden Yards – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles beat the Los Angeles Angels in a close game by a margin of 3-2 on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Camden Yards. The feature of the game for the Baltimore Orioles was the excellent pitching performance by starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez.
The Angels were the first to get on the board with the help of a Mike Trout home-run. Manny Machado scored a groundout RBI to get the birds back on level terms in the bottom of the sixth.
Nick Markakis was able to get a two-run RBI single in the seventh which proved to be the difference between the two teams at the end of the day.
Albert Pujols was able to get an RBI single in the ninth but the Angels were unable to get the tying run and the Orioles sealed the game. Jim Johnson made his 23rd save of the season, tying him for the season leader in saves.
Miguel Gonzalez was brilliant in his eight innings as he only surrendered four hits and gave away a single run. He currently has a 4-2 winning record in this season.
Miguel was adamant that he will continue the good work and keep the family out of his thoughts as he is on the ballpark. Gonzalez is expecting a baby girl anytime now.
“I have to keep working out, keep doing what I'm doing in between starts, what I need to do, and I'll focus on my family after,” Gonzalez said.
Manager Buck Showalter was happy with the way his team played the defensive game. He said that he is proud to be a part of the unit.
“That was a baseball game as far as defensive plays,” Showalter said. “You want to see defense. I'm proud to be part of that and watch those guys play defense.”
He was all praise for both the pitchers as they attacked the strike zone more. Not all pitchers do that though.
“You seem to get those types of things happen behind guys who attack the strike zone and have good tempo. That's what you're always stressing, but it doesn't always happen. Vargas is a good pitcher. So is Miggy,” the manager said.
It was a good win for the Orioles who are now nine games clear of the .500 mark for the first time this season. Some more good performances like this will certainly take them to the top of AL East.
