Baltimore Orioles beat Oakland Athletics 3-0 in tough contest at O.co Coliseum - MLB
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Oakland Athletics 3-0 is a well fought out contest at the latter’s home field on Friday, April 26. The Orioles had a solid performance in the pitching department as Wei-Yin Chen threw eight scoreless innings.
The win was completed with Jim Johnson picking his ninth save of the season. It was another game where the birds had the lead at the end of the seventh and won the game. The tally is now over a hundred games.
The game was in a stalemate until the seventh inning when Orioles finally put a run on the scoreboard. The birds were able to add two insurance runs at the top of the ninth.
Oakland Athletics proved to be generous hosts as they committed three errors in the field. Some of these errors turned out to be quite expensive.
Steve Pearce was one of the stars of the night for the O’s as he had a multi hit night. He found the going to be tough and acknowledged that the pitching was good by the opposing numbers.
"It was a tough game," Pearce said. "They were pitching well. There was almost a sense of who scored first would win."
Pearce has not been getting many opportunities but is willing to make the most of whatever comes his way. He had a slow start where he went hitless before getting his form back and has been 5-for-8 recently. The 30-year-old left fielder is currently hitting
at .200 in 25 at-bats.
"I started slow, but once I got the first hit I started feeling more comfortable," Pearce said. "Now I just want to keep it going. You have to grind baseball out."
Buck Showalter, the manager of the Baltimore Orioles was quite pleased by the performance from Pearce in particular. He thanks him highly despite of the limited opportunities that he is getting and feels that he is a positive part of the ballclub.
"I see all the work he does," Showalter said. "He plays sporadically, but he wants to help and he's a good teammate.”
Meanwhile, it was the second win of the season for Wei-Yin Chen who was pleased by the result. He currently stands at 2-2 win-loss record this season.
The pitcher said that he was previously thinking too much but this time around, he only concentrated on the pitching rather than thinking too much.
"It was the best start I had mentally," Chen said. "The last couple of outings I was thinking too much. Tonight I just wanted to throw the ball and not think."
It’s a good win for the Orioles who were for the first time since 2005 able to beat the A’s in consecutive games. They should take heart from this performance and try and make sure that they sweep the series.
