Baltimore Orioles beat Seattle Mariners 4-2 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles crushed the Seattle Mariners 4-2 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday, September 18 in second game of their three match series.
Starting pitcher Wei Yin Chen had a memorable time on the mound as he gave up just six hits and two runs in five plus innings to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Relief pitchers Jake Arrieta, Brian Matusz and Darren O’Day also displayed
some top quality throwing skills to keep Mariners on the defensive.
Showalter will be expecting the rotation to continue their impressive form in the finale to wrap up a much needed series sweep.
Chris Davis singled to right centre in the bottom of the ninth inning to keep Orioles in the contest. Taylor Teagarden earned an RBI single to right and Mark Reynolds grounded into fielder’s choice to third to help Orioles prevail in the longest game of
the season.
"It's everyone picking the next guy up," first baseman Mark Reynolds said. "We need guys to get hot right now to stay in this race. The Yankees aren't going anywhere. Oakland is a good team. Tampa Bay is right there. The Angels are a really good team. We
have to take care of our own by winning games. Whether it's Wieters or Jonesy or someone else, everyone has to step up."
"Erasmo pitched a fantastic ballgame," manager Eric Wedge said. "He did a great job with his fastball, mixed in his changeup as the game wore on and had a good breaking ball."
Orioles secured a comfortable 4-2 win in the series opener and they continued to impress the critics with a solid performance in Game 2. Credit should be given to the Orioles for showing great fighting abilities throughout this season.
With their marathon win, Buck Showalter and company also made claim for their share of American League East Division. It will be interesting to see if the Orioles can find a way to replace the New York Yankees at the top of the standings table to make it
to the playoffs for the first time after more than a decade.
The Mariners will be disappointed by their performance as they failed to make an impact against the Orioles.
