Baltimore Orioles beat Texas Ranger 6-1 as pitcher Wei-Yin Chen returns to the Majors – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles were finally able to silence the Texas Rangers’ bats as starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen made an impactful return to the Majors. The birds beat the Rangers 6-1 at the Camden Yards on Wednesday in front of 19000 plus crowd.
In the seven innings that he pitched, Chen gave away just three hits and a single earned run before reliever Tommy Hunter threw down two scoreless innings to bring an end to a near perfect night for the Orioles.
Wei-Yin expressed his satisfaction over his performance after the ballgame with the help of a translator. He was happy to be back with full health and wanted to perform for the O’s.
“I proved myself tonight,” Chen said. “I'm healthy, and I'm back. I feel like I help the team to win. Everything is for the Orioles.”
Catcher Matt Wieters is well aware of the importance of the pitcher who brings a lot of stability to the opening rotation.
“It's big. For the last year-and-a-half he was a consistent force for our rotation,” Wieters said
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said that Chen’s performance in his last rehab game for the Bowie Bay Sox was where he got competitive and got into his groove. Buck had earlier expressed his desire that the pitcher goes hard at the opponents in that particular
game which he duly did.
“I think his last start was important in Bowie, he really got competitive juices flowing. It's been frustrating for him,” Showalter said.
It was also a ballgame where the Orioles came to party with the bat. It started in the third innings when a triple by Manny Machado drove in the first run of the game. A wild pitch by Josh Lindblom, the starting pitcher for the Rangers, allowed Manny Machado
to reach base to make it 2-0.
An RBI single by Brian Roberts followed by a three-run home-run by Nolan Reimold put the game beyond the reach of the Texas ballclub who were able to add just one run in the top of the sixth innings.
The win provides the Orioles a chance to end the four-game series on even terms on Thursday. They will need to push hard in the same manner to get the better of their opponents.
