Baltimore Orioles beat Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 at Camden Yards - MLB Update
The Baltimore Orioles secured yet another home series after beating the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Camden Yards in front of a relatively small crowd.
This was the team’s fourth consecutive win in a situation where the match was decided by a single run and now stands at 4-3 winning record at such games. They also won their hundredth consecutive match in a situation where the team led at the end of the
seventh innings.
The birds got all of their four runs in the second inning against R.A. Dickey. The scoring included a two-run single by third baseman Manny Machado.
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter believed that his team did enjoy some luck and they could have been in trouble against the Blue Jays’ opening pitcher.
"There's no magic approach you take to those guys," Showalter said. "How many balls did we square up off him? We were fortunate. I think our guys will be the first to tell you that.”
Relieving pitcher Pedro Strop, who himself had a great relief outing, believed that the team is going strong and it is out to prove everyone wrong who thought last year was a fluke. He hopes that the team will take the issue further forward this year and
improve upon its previous performance.
"Last year in the beginning, people started saying it was good luck or whatever," Strop said, "People kept saying it was just one season, so we want to want to prove whoever's saying that wrong.”
This was the fifth win for the O’s in the last six games. It was also the eighth save for Jim Johnson who has only surrendered three hits in 26 at-bats.
Third baseman Manny Machado was pleased with the job that was done by the bullpen yet again. He said that there is an air of confidence in the dugout every time Jim Johnson goes out to record a save.
"Our bullpen hasn't failed us yet," said Machado. "They do a good job in holding the lead. And once the ninth inning comes in, Jimmy comes out, and you know its lights out, because you know he's going to shut the door for us."
The Baltimore Orioles at the moment have a 12-8 winning record and have been showing some good consistent performances. They are just a game behind the leader of the American League East Boston Red Sox.
The fans will be hoping that the good work continues and the team can once again show what it is capable of doing. They have been solid in the field and the pitching unit also seems to be performing quite well. It is important that the offence also continues
to fire and help the team in winning.
